Working Days Between Two Dates — Excluding Weekends
Enter a start and an end date and the counter returns the Monday-to-Friday days between them with weekends removed, next to the total calendar days, weeks and the weekday each date falls on.
- A gap between two dates is "end − start": 1 January to 31 January is 30 days apart, but 31 days if you count every day you include.
- Deadlines that say "within 30 days" normally exclude the start day, so day 30 is the last working day.
- Leap years add a day to February, which is why two dates a year apart are sometimes 365 and sometimes 366 days.
- Time zones do not matter here — every date is treated as a plain calendar day at midnight UTC.
What counts as a working day here
Monday to Friday, both endpoints included. Weekends are removed by weekday, not by custom: a public holiday that falls on a Tuesday still counts as a working day, because the tool has no way of knowing which gazetted holidays your office observes. Subtract those separately — a 22-working-day month with four public holidays is really 18 days of output.
Counting is done in UTC calendar arithmetic, so a month boundary, a leap year or a daylight-saving change cannot shift the answer by a day. That matters most when a deadline is expressed in days rather than a date.
Calendar days versus working days
A contract that says “30 days” means 30 calendar days. One that says “30 working days” means roughly six calendar weeks, because every week contributes only five of them. The conversion is not exactly ×7/5 for a specific window — it depends which weekday you start on — which is why guessing is a bad idea for a notice period. Start today, switch to the shift mode, enter the number of working days, and read the calendar date off the result.

The three jobs this settles
- Notice period: how many days are left between your last working day and the date you told your employer, and what calendar date a “60 working days” notice actually ends on.
- Deadline maths: a courier promised delivery in 7 working days from Friday — the shift mode gives the weekday and date it lands on, which is usually later than people assume.
- Project and billing days: the total days, weeks and months between two dates sit beside the working-day count, so an invoice based on calendar days and a plan based on working days can be reconciled in one screen.
If you need the age of something rather than the gap — a person, a document, a certificate — the age calculator uses the same calendar engine and shows the milestone dates. The full date difference tool page has the inclusive/exclusive options and the date-shift mode explained in more detail.
- Set the start date — Type it as YYYY-MM-DD or use the picker. The start date itself is counted as a working day if it is a weekday.
- Set the end date — Both dates are inclusive, so Monday to Friday of the same week reads as five working days.
- Read the working-day count — The result line shows working days, total days and the calendar split in months and days.
- Need a future date instead? — Switch to the shift mode: give a base date and a number of days, and it returns the weekday that lands there.
- Weekends are removed by weekday, so a 90-day window is not 90 working days — the two counts sit side by side.
- UTC date arithmetic means month lengths and leap years never shift the answer by one day.
- The shift mode works forwards and backwards, which covers “what date is 45 working days from Friday”.
- No sign-up, no upload and no server call — the dates never leave your browser.
Working Days Calculator — questions
Does the count include the start date?
Yes. Both the start and the end date are counted when they fall on a weekday, which is how most HR and project systems count. A Monday-to-Friday week therefore reads as five working days, not four.
Are public holidays removed automatically?
No, and no tool can do it reliably for you — holiday lists change every year and differ by organisation and province. Count the working days here, then subtract the holidays inside that window by hand.
How many working days are in a month?
Between 19 and 23 for a Monday-to-Friday week. In 2026 the shortest month is February with 20 and the longest are July and December with 23; the year has 261 working days in total.
What is 30 working days in calendar days?
Six full weeks, so 40 to 42 calendar days depending on which weekday you start counting from. That is why a “30 working days” notice period feels longer than the number suggests.
My office works Saturday as well. How do I count that?
Take the Monday-to-Friday figure and add the Saturdays that fall inside the range: a span of N calendar days contains either ⌊N/7⌋ or ⌈N/7⌉ Saturdays depending on where it starts, so count the weeks in the result line and multiply by one.
Can I add working days to a date instead of counting between two dates?
Yes — the second mode takes a base date and a number of days and returns the date it lands on with its weekday, which is what a delivery promise or a submission deadline usually means.
